Enviable Bass Fishing Lures
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios

The bass, a North American freshwater food and game fish, is one of the most beautiful fish in point of color, and next to the salmon is the most palatable. Bass fish have a reputation to protect, and they certainly live up to it. Like baseball, Americans love bass fishing. Anglers everywhere pursue this mighty game fish. Bass fishing is a popular summer pastime and the turnout at bass derbies is incredibly high. These aggressive fish are found in nearly any body of water throughout the United States. Both large-mouth and small-mouth bass fish range all over the country. These fish are habitually warm water fish, so the only place you won't find them is in the cold waters.

The best place for fishing bass is the quietest location you can find, and preferably at full neap tide. When this tide occurs early in the morning, or late in the afternoon, and if the wind is blowing offshore, you may catch bass very easily, and in abundance. However, even the best sportfishermen have trouble catching bass in midsummer. Most significant for poor bass fishing during hot weathers is the abundant food supply. By midsummer, baitfish hatched in spring reach a delectable size enticing the bass. With natural food so easily available, artificial bass fishing lures hold less appeal.

Trolling for bass is an excellent technique, and works best in large rivers or lakes that have long stretches of deep water with slow to moderate current. When trolling, bass fishing lures remain in the water all the time, maximizing the chances of catching bass. Trolling is a relatively easier technique as compared to casting, and enables the amateur angler to cover more water. Effective anglers are those that diligently maneuver their bass fishing lures in a manner to attract the bass to eat it. Bass fishing lures that utilize sounds, smell, vibration, looks, or the ideal combination of these traits, can entice bass. Therefore, when selecting decoys, try to appeal to the bass senses, its penchant for intake and its inherent desirability to susceptible prey. Larger bass fishing lures will normally beguile strikes from larger bass.
